About Carrie

Like all of us, I’m a work in progress. I’m a mom first, a business woman second and an author, third.

I learn quickly and get bored just as fast, fueling my love of agencies. I’m a fraternal twin born three-minutes before my brother, Clint–who was a total surprise on Mother’s Day–a left-handed bookworm, a voracious reader, a very stubborn Taurus and a natural teacher. Long before I landed on marketing as a career choice, I was a horse trainer, riding instructor and, even earlier, a bossy little girl marching to her own drum.

I still go my own way and I still love to read and teach. It’s a match made in heaven for an author, right?

Two decades of marketing experience

For the last twenty-plus years, I’ve been fascinated by the online world. I’ve spent my career working for employers and clients like American Express Financial, Fidelity National Title, Healthways, Sun Health, Keller Williams, Better Business Bureau and she{ology} with a unique branding and market positioning background.

Today, I’m a digital public relations consultant, author (obviously! LOL) and budding speaker who still gets stage fright.

Until I made a conscious decision to cease syndication recently, my blog was syndicated by some of the largest marketing publications in the industry including Social Media Today, PR Daily, Convince & Convert and B2Community. Today, I syndicate less and try to make time to write guest blog posts more frequently.

There simply aren’t enough hours in the day to do what I want to do. I’m sure you can relate!

I’m fortunate enough to have become a Top 1% online marketing influencer, a Top 5% LinkedIn user,  co-moderator of the largest local Facebook group in the country for PR professionals, and moderator of #PRprochat – a monthly Twitter chat for public relations professionals that reaches millions of timelines each month, and showcases AMAZING guests such as Jay Baer, Ann Handley, Gini Dietrich, Shonali Burke and other industry leaders.

#PRprochat is now one of the largest Twitter chats in the public relations industry.

I’m a current member of the Author’s Guild, and a past member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the American Marketing Agency (AMA).

I believe in associations but haven’t found they provide much value to senior level practitioners.

I have served locally in Arizona on the boards of directors for the Girls Rule! Foundation, Environmental Fund For Arizona and the Green Chamber of Commerce, along with volunteering for the Beer For Brains Foundation in support of my father, who is dealing with stage four glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. In addition to brain tumor research, I support nonprofit activity and causes related to public relations professional education, teen mental disorders, drug and alcohol recovery, senior care and the environment.

I wine glass imagelive in Phoenix, Arizona and am learning how to be an empty nester. As I try laughingly to say, “It’s time for Carrie 2.0!” I’m not sure if I like it yet.

Like everyone in our industry, I am baffled by the speed of change as public relations becomes digitized, but have one advantage: my love of learning. Since the Internet began, I’ve had a love of all things online and focused my learning in that area.

Now, perhaps you can benefit from my inner geek.

Here’s hoping this is just the first book of many. <clink>
